Installing Office 2024 Professional Plus takes about fifteen minutes, most of which is the download running by itself. The order matters more than anything else here: if an older Office is still on the machine, it can stop the install, so deal with that first.
Before you start
- Any previous Office removed from the computer, then a restart. This includes an expired Microsoft 365 trial, which counts even if you never opened it. Here is how to remove it.
- The 25-character product key from your delivery email.
- About 4 GB of free disk space and an internet connection.
- Finish installing and activating before you sign in to Office with a Microsoft account.
The six steps
- Download the installer from the link in your delivery email, or from the Download button on the product page.
- Open your Downloads folder, right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator. When Windows asks whether to allow changes, select Yes.
- Stay online and leave the computer alone. The installer downloads Office and closes by itself when it is done.
- Open Word, Excel or any other Office app from Start > All apps.
- Go to Account in the bottom-left corner and select Change Product Key.
- Type or paste the 25-character key from your delivery email. The dashes are part of it.
Check that it worked
In Word, open File, then Account. Under Product Information it should name Office 2024 Professional Plus and say the product is activated. If it instead shows a yellow or red banner about an unlicensed product, the activation did not complete.
If it fails
Write down the exact error code on screen before trying anything else. Office codes look different from Windows ones — often a longer number like 30015-4 or 0x4004F00C — but they work the same way: the code says what happened.
